West Sacramento – Project YE’ES

In collaboration with Sociology Professor John Sanfield, the purpose of this project was to lead an educational process for involving diverse teens in visioning the future of West Sacramento.

Applying CDBG funding to improve blighted areas, we worked with urban youth to redesign their own community, as grassroots researchers and future leaders. We took teens on a learning spree to great public places that expanded their horizons and energized ideas. We taught them to produce graphics to express fresh ideas in response to community research. We proved what PVR’s founding principal Allen Green calls “the general genius for fast forward learning” by guiding a learning process that helped the teens generate green city plans with great sensitivity to community values and complex interests.
